Sir:
I would like to loge a complaint against Mr. Rene Gaton Election Officer IV of Taytay Rizal.
My wife Lorna Orosa had been going back and forth to the COMELEC branch at Taytay Rizal on several occasions in the past for registration purposes. Being a full time employee, she has very limited opportunities to personally go and have herself registered. She had to excuse herself from her hectic work schedules on several occasions just to register herself. Unfortunately during those times went she went to the COMELEC, either the cameras were not functioning hence no registration can take place or the offices were closed since they were supposedly doing some field registration.
Since the deadline is near and knowing that the COMELEC office purpotedly had been announcing all over the media that registration will be unitl 9pm, we arrived at the COMELEC office at Taytay Rizal at 7:30PM Thursday October 29, 2009 for registration.
The man who identified himself as Mr. Rene Gaton Election Officer IV of Taytay Rizal spoke with us and told us that we can no longer be accomodated. We insisted that since the COMELEC purpotedly announced that registration is till 9PM and there is still time that we should be accomodated knowing that it may be the last opportunity for us to do so. Besides, my wife took of early from work only for this registration and there is still a significant amount of time to do the same. He instead insisted that they could no longer accomodate us since they had to go home to their families, otherwise in his own words, “ISIPIN NIYO NAMAN KAMI, KUNG PAPAYAGAN NAMIN KAYO, HINDI NA KAMI MAKAKAUWI, MAY PAMILYA DIN KAMI”
My wife may no longer have the opportunity of being able to register due to your election officers attitude since arriving at 7:30PM at the COMELEC is the earliest possible time for her to start the process. And being denied after several repeated attempts had only made our efforts futile.
Sir, PUBLIC SERVICE is the role of government entities such as yours and being PUBLIC SERVANTS, your priorities should be set straight and you should remember that as taxpayers, we are the one paying for your salary and not the other way around. After all registration only happens a few months prior to election and as PUBLIC SERVANTS, your employees’ function is to SERVE AND NOT TO BE SERVED. It is their primary duty to do so and not think more so verbalize na “ISIPIN NIYO NAMAN KAMI, KUNG PAPAYAGAN NAMIN KAYO, HINDI NA KAMI MAKAKAUWI, MAY PAMILYA DIN KAMI”. Bear in mind that after registration, they have all the time to go home early should they wish to do so. In the first place it is their incompetence or machinery failure that should have allowed us to register earlier in the first place.
We cannot fathom having COMELEC officials such as Mr. Rene Gaton Election Officer IV of Taytay Rizal that seems to prioritize going home early and selfishly thinking of themselves and their families instead of doing their jobs in an efficient manner.
Besides, if the COMELEC is really true to its Media Hype of being open till 9PM to allow citizens to register, why deny us the opportunity to register at 7:30PM? To be able to MAKE US THINK OF THE EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES SO THAT THEY CAN GO HOME EARLY?
We hope your favorable action and swift response on this matter be done soon and we hope you keep us posted and give us the courtesy, respect and sincerity of a prompt reply.
